Target Blocklist

Save Residential Proxy bandwidth by blocking unwanted targets. Learn how to add targets, choose the right patterns, and schedule when blocking starts.

How Target Blocklist Works

Target Blocklist lets you choose which targets your Residential Proxy should block, helping you keep unwanted requests from consuming your bandwidth.

Manage your rules in the Save your bandwidth tab on the Residential Proxy page.

Behavior:

  • Add up to 50 target entries to your User Blocklist
  • Start blocking without a schedule or choose a future start time
  • Changes apply to your account and everyone on your team after saving
  • This customer tab shows user entries only; global blocklist entries are not shown or editable here
  • Adding, editing, or removing an entry does not save it automatically

Shared rules: If you are using a team account, you edit the team's shared blocklist, not a separate list for yourself. Review changes with your team before saving.

Add a Target

  1. Open the Residential Proxy page.
  2. Select the Save your bandwidth tab.
  3. In User Blocklist, click Add target.
  4. Enter a target: a hostname, IP address, or CIDR range.
  5. Leave Starts at (UTC) blank to apply the block as soon as your saved changes take effect, or select a start date and time.
  6. Click Save changes.

After a successful save, the page shows All changes saved.

Your changes will be propagated into our system within around 2 minutes. If it takes longer, contact our support.

Save before leaving: Your changes only apply after you click Save changes. If saving fails, your edits remain on the page so you can try again.

Accepted Target Formats

Each target must be a hostname, an IP address, or a CIDR range.

Hostname

Include the domain extension, and use at least one dot. A hostname also blocks its subdomains.

Format:

abc.com

Example matches:

  • sub.abc.com
  • dev.sub.abc.com

IP Address

Enter a single IPv4 address without a port.

Formats:

1.2.3.4

CIDR Range

Enter an IPv4 address with a prefix length from 0 to 32.

Formats:

10.0.0.0/8

Not Accepted

These values are rejected when you save:

https://abc.com
abc.com/path
abc.com:443
*.abc.com
abc
10.0.0.0/33

Enter the target on its own: Do not include a scheme, path, port, wildcard, or spaces. Wildcards are never needed because subdomains are already blocked, and a hostname needs at least one dot.

Schedule When Blocking Starts

Each entry has an optional Starts at (UTC) field.

Start timeBehavior
BlankBlocking starts once your saved changes take effect
Future date and timeBlocking starts at the scheduled time

Example:

To start blocking abc.com at a future time:

  1. Add abc.com to your User Blocklist.
  2. Set the Starts at (UTC) value on the entry.
  3. Click Save changes before the scheduled time.

Use UTC: All start times are in UTC. Convert your local time to UTC before choosing a start time.

Edit or Remove a Target

Edit an Entry

  1. Find the entry in User Blocklist.
  2. Update its Target or Starts at (UTC) value.
  3. Click Save changes.

Remove an Entry

  1. Click the delete button beside the entry.
  2. Click Save changes.

Blocklist Limits

  • You can save up to 50 user target entries.
  • Every entry must use an accepted format before you can save.
  • Scheduled entries count toward the limit, even before their start time.
  • At the limit, remove an existing entry before adding another.
  • Every entry must have a target value before you can save.

Best Practices

  • Enter a hostname with at least one dot (abc.com), an IP address (1.2.3.4), or a CIDR range (10.0.0.0/8).
  • Add one hostname, IP address, or CIDR range per entry.
  • Start with targets you know your workflow does not need.
  • Review shared rules with your team to avoid interrupting their requests.
  • Check your workflow after saving to make sure required targets remain accessible.

Common Issues

Only Some Targets Are Blocked

  • Check that the entry uses an accepted format: a hostname with a dot, an IP address, or a CIDR range.
  • Compare the target with the accepted formats above.
  • Check for typos in each entry.
  • Make sure you clicked Save changes and allow around 2 minutes for your changes to take effect.
  • If you set a start time, confirm that it has passed in UTC.

Save Changes Is Disabled

  • Check whether there are any unsaved changes.
  • Fix any target marked as invalid below its field.
  • Fill in every empty Target field, or remove unused entries.
  • Make sure the list contains no more than 50 entries.
  • Wait for the blocklist to finish loading or saving.

The Blocklist Could Not Load

  • Click Retry to load your saved rules again.
  • If your team account could not be resolved, reload the page and try again.
  • Editing is disabled while the blocklist is unavailable to avoid overwriting rules you cannot see.

Changes Could Not Be Saved

  • Your edits remain on the page after a save error.
  • Keep the page open, check your connection, and try Save changes again.
  • Wait for All changes saved before leaving the page.
